Baptist News Global

Inspiration for change-making conversations

Baptist News Global is a reader-supported, independent news organization providing original and curated news, opinion and analysis about matters of faith. We cover the people, events and ideas that are shaping American religion and culture. We do so from a perspective that is Baptist in heritage and ecumenical in spirit.

Our Mission

To inform and inspire readers with news, opinion and analysis that engages them to grow in faith and wrestle with what it means to live and serve faithfully in a rapidly changing world.

Our Vision

To pursue truth through responsible journalism that cultivates change-making conversations about Christianity and culture among Baptists and other inquisitive people of faith.

Our Values

Independence, integrity, trustworthiness, excellence, justice, curiosity

Our Funding

The unique ministry of Baptist News Global is made possible by individuals, churches and other organizations that believe a free and unfettered source of information is essential to the integrity of the Christian witness and to the vitality of the Baptist movement. As a reader-supported, nonprofit news organization, Baptist News Global relies upon reader contributions for two-thirds of its annual budget.

No gift is too small (or large), as our donations come in all sizes, from a few dollars to a few thousand dollars. Many of our faithful readers give monthly or quarterly as they are able.

We also acknowledge generous support from the John and Eula Mae Baugh Foundation that has sustained us through the years and allowed us to build an endowment (managed by the Associated Baptist Press Foundation) that currently provides about one-third of our annual income. All the rest comes in $50 and $100 donations from readers like you.

No donor — large or small — exercises any editorial control over our content. Our board of directors is fiercely independent.

Learn more about ways you can support our ministry. All gifts to Baptist News Global are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.

Our Governance

Baptist News Global is governed and guided by an autonomous, volunteer Board of Directors composed of laypersons and clergy who represent a cross-section of mainstream Baptist life.

Learn about our current board members.

Our History

BNG has both a short and long history. Its immediate predecessor, Associated Baptist Press, was founded in 1990 as the only independent news service created by and for Baptists. In 2013, the boards of ABP and The Religious Herald approved the merger of the two news organizations to form Baptist News Global. The Religious Herald, one of the earliest Protestant newspapers in the United States, was founded in 1828 as the voice of Baptists in Virginia. The preservation of its rich and distinctive heritage and values is an enduring commitment of BNG’s board of directors and staff.
